Tesla Model X Door Drama Continues
The first time I was able to try out a Tesla Model X, I immediately noticed the doors were a problem. One opened and whacked my dog. Another almost closed on one of my kids. Pressing the buttons for the cool falcon wings to close usually didn’t result in any movement. Supposedly Tesla was going to fix all of that with a firmware update, but MEtv Product Reviews says many problems remain.
MEtv has a YouTube channel where it offers up unbiased reviews of technology products, including Teslas. Through testing, the group has concluded that Tesla might have turned off the sensors that detected if something was in the pathway of the doors. They were supposed to prevent injuries, but could have been the cause of reliability problems.
If you skip to about the 8-minute mark in the video below, you’ll see the result. A falcon wing door crunches through a cucumber like it’s nothing, which could have been a little kid’s fingers. Warning: there is some NSFW language.
Before anyone starts cooking up conspiracy theories, Jalopnik actually got a statement from MEtv Product Reviews. The group says it was told the door sensors “were deemed no longer necessary.” Apparently, fixing the issues with the sensors was too difficult. There are sensors in the motors to help prevent pinches, but the result in the video should worry anyone.
