Spyker has been on an interesting ride over the past few years. It was once the supposed savior of Saab, but then fell into its own financial hole and somehow has been able to survive when so many counted it out. Now it seems that the Dutch boutique automaker will be forging ahead into electric vehicles, according to a Cars UK report.

Those who know Spyker are aware of its almost steampunk interiors that hearken back to airplanes of old. The company definitely has a niche appeal, one that didn’t support the ill-advised plan of creating a “budget” version of the B6 Venator.

Back in July of last year Spyker said it was going to merge with Volta Volare, an electric aircraft company. That might sound like a strange marriage, but for Spyker it’s just par for the course. Word on the street is that Spyker will use the Geneva Motor Show to officially reveal an EV concept. For now, that’s just a rumor, so don’t get your hopes up too much. It would make sense, because Spyker now has access to advanced electrification technology, and Geneva would be the place to show that off.

If Spyker does have an EV in the works, it most likely is the B6 Venator concept outfitted with batteries and electric motors. Even though it’s about three years-old, the B6 Venator is still so beautifully styled it generates interest. The company might use the coupe or convertible version of the car, or it could go with both.

There’s still the possibility that Spyker will create a plug-in hybrid version of the B6 Venator. No matter which kind, expect a creative and artistic way to conceal the plug, because that’s the way Spyker rolls.
