Sleeker and Better-Handling Kia Rio to Debut in Paris

The Kia Rio may not be the most exciting rig on the planet, but it is certainly important for Kia as it fits that narrow subcompact segment that lures young buyers to the brand. Today, Kia has announced when and where it will launch the new-generation Rio and it showed off a teaser image.

According to the press release, Kia will unveil its petite people mover at the Paris Auto Show on September 29, 2016.

This new-generation model will usher in an all-new look that includes a longer front overhang and hood, a longer wheelbase, and a more vertical C-pillar. The teaser image also shows more horizontal headlights, a restyled tiger nose grille, a new central air inlet, new fog light housings, wider taillights, sharper creases, and a restyled bumper insert. All of these changes will make the Rio visually wider and sportier.

In addition to the visual changes, Kia is also promising that the new Rio will have class-leading practicality and safety technology, the newest connectivity, and better ride and handling characteristics.

There is no mention of powertrain updates, but I wouldn’t expect the tiny Rio to stray too far from the current powertrain setup. The current Rio uses a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that produces a respectable-for-its-class 138 horsepower and 123 pound-feet of torque. This engine mates to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed auto transmission.
