Shelby’s All-New 750-Horsepower Super Snake Debuts

Shelby American is turning 50 years old in 2017, and it’s celebrating the only way it knows how: building a badass hot rod!

The American muscle car modifier is celebrating the big 5-0 with an all-new 50th Anniversary Shelby Super Snake. It will roll in with the 5.0-liter that is under the hood of all Mustang GTs, but with its power cranked to 670 horsepower thanks to a supercharger. For buyers looking for a little more power, there is an optional Whipple or Kenne Bell supercharger that pushes the power to 750 ponies.

With the 750-horsepower option, the 50th Anniversary Super Snake will crest 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds and clear a quarter mile in 10.9 ticks.

Other than the 750-horsepower upgrade, other powertrain options include an extreme cooling package, a one-piece drive shaft, performance half shafts and 3.73 gears.

To reign in all this power, Shelby installed an exclusive suspension system that include new dampers, sway bars and bushings. There are also 20-inch forged-aluminum wheels and performance tires. Stopping duties are handled by Wilwood calipers with six pistons up front and four pistons on the rear, and brake-cooling ducts. This updated chassis helps deliver up to 1.2g on the skid pad.

Options for the chassis include a track-tuned adjustable suspension and Shelby coil covers.

There are also plenty of exterior goodies, including Shelby engineered hood, grilles, rockers, rocker splitters, front splitter, rear spoiler, rear tail panel, rear diffuser and lower rear splitter, exclusive integrated LED fog, marker and turn signal assemblies, and 50th anniversary badges and stripes. Inside, there are anniversary logos, special doorsill plates, Shelby by Autometer gauges and an official Shelby serial number on a plaque.

Buyers can also opt for painted strips, stripe delete, Shelby by Katzkin seats, a four-point roll bar, rear seat delete and a convertible light bar.

This upgrade package starts from $36,795 without the donor Mustang GT. Including the lowest-priced GT, this would set you back a total of $69,995. It also comes with a Shelby three-year or 36,000-mile powertrain warranty.

If you’re hoping to snag one, you’d better act fast, as Shelby is limiting it to only 500 units.
