Rumor has it the Shelby GT350 will Switch to a Dual-Clutch Transmission

The Ford Shelby GT350 and GT350R are almost inarguably among the most awesome Mustangs ever built. Currently, they both come with only a six-speed manual transmission, but a new report from the folks over at Mustang6G.com indicates it may get a new, more advanced transmission in the future.

The transmission in question is a dual-clutch unit. Mustang6G reported the story and showed its evidence to Road & Track, who said the evidence is “credible.”

Unfortunately, neither site revealed what this “evidence” was, nor did they give out any big details on this potential new transmission. Speculation says the transmission will be either a clean-sheet six-seed unit or a reworked version of the Ford GT’s seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

I suspect, Ford will choose the latter option, as it only makes sense that it would be more cost effective to rework an existing transmission than building one from scratch.

Regardless of the transmission that Ford goes with, this transmission would make the GT350 and GT350R absolute rockets. They already sprint to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds with the manual gearbox, meaning a dual-clutch unit could push them into the low-four-second range. This transmission would also make these wild Mustangs even more intense on the track.

Now for a quick reality check… Keep in mind that this information is based on some sort of leaked document, and it could be nothing more than a thought put on paper. With that being a possibility, I suggest tempering your excitement for a GT350 with a DCT until we have more concrete details
