Range Rover Velar Revealed

Land Rover, just like sister brand Jaguar, is in an aggressive expansion mode. Laugh if you will, but the Brits are serious about taking the fight to the Germans, Americans and Japanese luxury marques. The last evidence, which is pretty compelling, is the Range Rover Velar.

This SUV sits in the Land Rover lineup right between the Range Rover Evoque and the Range Rover Sport. It’s a direct competitor with the Porsche Macan and many other small, performance SUVs, which is a hot market right now.

While Land Rover is giving us a nice sneak peek at the Velar right now, the official launch and first public appearance is set for March 1, before the Geneva show.

For now, we have no specs on the Velar, so we’re left to ogle its beauty – or at least the back-end and roof, because that’s all Land Rover’s showing off. The company is saying the construction includes “unique sustainable materials.” We’ve seen automakers like Ford make seat padding and plastics out of plant matter, so that could mean just about anything. The brand is promising some other engineering feats, so we’ll see what lurks under the sculpted body panels.
