RAM Launches the Most Powerful Pickup in the 3500 Heavy Duty
RAM updated its mighty 3500 model in 2017, pushing its torque to an incredible 900 pound-feet and giving it insane pulling capabilities. Now, for 2018, it’s updated its output again and added a few more words to its name, as it strives for heavy-duty pickup superiority.
Meet the 2018 RAM 3500 Heavy Duty.
The new engine behind the boosted output in the 2018 RAM 3500 Heavy Duty is not actually new: It’s the same Cummins 6.7-liter inline-six as before. But, Cummins upgraded it with a variable-geometry turbo and increased fuel-injection flow rate to squeeze an extra 30 pound-feet of torque from it. This puts the 6.7-liter diesel engine at 383 horsepower and a record-setting 930 pound-feet of torque.
While the RAM 3500 Heavy Duty retains the 2017 RAM 3500’s 31,210-pound towing capacity with the fifth-wheel towing option, this additional torque should make faster work of getting that massive trailer moving. This upgraded towing package runs a relatively affordable $1,395.
Conventional towing sits at 20,000 pounds.
The 2018 RAM 3500 Heavy Duty will hit showrooms in August 2017. Stay tuned for updates.
