Porsche To Debut the Track-Only Cayman GT4 Clubsport in LA

Porsche is no stranger to creating racing versions of its street-legal cars, and the Cayman GT4 appears to be the perfect base rig for this transformation. Apparently, Porsche agrees, as it has just announced a track-only Cayman GT4, which is dubbed the Clubsport, will debut at the 2015 LA Auto Show.

This track-only version of the Cayman will focus mostly on its agility, as its curb weight falls from 2,955 pounds to 2,866 pounds. This weight loss is likely due to Porsche stripping the cabin down to only the bare necessities and replacing the glass a more race ready plastic blend.

Speaking of the interior, Porsche announced that this model will feature a welded-in safety cage, a racing bucket seat, and a six-point harness to keep the driver safe. The welded-in cage may even help with rigidity and improve the cornering abilities of the Cayman GT4 Clubsport.

Under its hood, things seem to remain unchanged, as the Clubsport will come with the same 3.8-liter flat-six as the rest of the Cayman GT4s. This unit produces 385 horsepower and 309 pound-feet of twist and mates to Porsche’s dual-clutch transmission.

I am sure there are other important features included with this race-tuned Cayman GT4, but Porsche is being stingy with the info for now. What we do know is that orders for this special model can only be made at Porsche Motorsport in Weissach, or from Porsche Motorsport North America. It will not be available at traditional Porsche outlets, as it will not be street legal.
