Porsche Reimburses Owners For Sunglasses
Sometimes legal stories surface that seem like something out of a bad episode of Law & Order. Case in point: Porsche has decided to reimburse certain vehicle owners for purchasing sunglasses, all because of dashboards.
That’s not a joke.
Thanks to Motor Trend, which originally pointed out the legal settlement, we know a number of Porsche owners filed a class action suit against the company. The problem, they claimed, was that any 2007 to 2016 model with a Luxor Beige, Cognac, Natural Brown, Platinum Grey, or Sand Beige dash creates a glare when the sun hits it just right. The only way to compensate for that glare is with a pair of polarized sunglasses.
Apparently, Porsche thought court battles with a bunch of people who bought cars from it was bad form. So, it decided to settle, and that included reimbursing people from $50 to $175 for buying sunglasses.
You’d think anyone who could afford a Porsche, even a Boxster, could drop $175 on a pair of sunglasses without flinching. I’m sure it’s all about the principle and all that, but still. Other people are being maimed or killed by defective airbags, but this is a super pressing issue?
If you want to make a claim for buying sunglasses, you have until Sept. 21. To claim other modifications to your car to cut down on the glare, you can file a claim by June 25, 2018.
