Porsche Looking into a Boxster Spyder GT4

Apparently, Porsche has had loads of success with the Cayman GT4, as if that is a surprise to anyone. Who in their right mind wouldn’t want a 911-powered Cayman with track-ready suspension and brake systems? I know I would run at the chance to grab one, finances permitting. This success has now led the German brand to consider giving the Boxster Spyder the GT4 treatment as well, according to AutoCar.

The Boxster Spyder already shares its 3.8-liter flat-six engine with the Cayman GT4, so what would be involved in turning the drop-top into a GT4? This would include installing a fully adjustable front suspension and a custom rear setup, adding in brakes from the 911 GT3, and modifying the Cayman GT4’s aero kit to fit the Boxster Spyder.

Overall, that is not a ton of work, but pricing could be an issue. You see, the Cayman GT4 starts from $84,600 and the Boxster Spyder will start from $82,100 range. To remain consistent with the rest of the Boxster-Cayman pricing scheme, the Boxster Spyder GT4 would need to land under $84,500, leaving Porsche less than $2,400 to get the suspension, brakes, and aero kit fitted to the Boxster Spyder.

That’s a tight budget to hit, but considering most of the engineering work was absorbed by the development of the Cayman GT4, it may be an attainable goal.

In the same report, AutoCar also learned that Porsche is considering creating an even more insane GT4 RS model. Much like the report of the Boxster Spyder GT4, this leak about the RS came directly from an executive at Porsche, so there is definitely some legitimacy to it.
