In anticipation of the upcoming GT3 racing series, Porsche has created a new, lighter version of its iconic 911 GT3 RS that it has dubbed the 911 GT3 R.

Powering the GT3 R is a 4.0-liter flat-six engine that produces more than 500 horsepower –1 specific output numbers depend upon FIA regulations. This powerful six-pot ships its power to a sequential six-sped gearbox that delivers the power to a mechanical slip rear dif. The power heads to the rear diff via a six-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The body of the GT3 R takes plenty from its GT3 RS donor car, particularly its aluminum-steel composite, which makes it lighter and more rigid than previous editions. Carbon fiber also makes an appearance on the hood, roof, front covering, wheel arches, doors, and tail section. Also helping reduce weight are the polycarbonate windows.

Doing the stopping are 380 mm (14.96-inch} ventilated and grooved rotors squeezed by six-piston aluminum monobloc calipers, while the rears use four-piston calipers on 372 mm (14.64-inch) calipers.

Other updates include adjustable antiroll bars, center-lock wheels, and one-piece BBS rollers wrapped up in performance rubber.

Aero work is a big part of building a racecar, and the 911 GT3 R is no exception. This model uses front fairing vents for added down force, a 78.7-inch rear wing. Sure, ti’s nothing big, but with a wll-balanced car like the 911 GT3 doesn’t need much more.

Currently, the GT3 R carries a price of €429,000 ($490,903), and it’ll start finding its way to new homes, starting in December 2016.
