NYC Police Will Roll Hard In Smart Cars

Soon, New York’s Finest will be tooling around in Smart Fortwos, thanks to a new deal between NYC and Daimler. If that makes you laugh, you’re normal, because the thought of anyone in a Smart car being taken seriously is pretty funny.

Of course, not every police officer will be getting behind the wheel of a Fortwo. Instead, 250 of them will be used to replace the ridiculous three-wheel motorcycles cops have been using in the Big Apple. Daimler’s quick to point out NYPD is trading up for air conditioning, which is a huge plus during the sweltering summer months.

Just like other police vehicles, the Smart Fortwos will be clearly labeled with blue lettering on a white body. A blue roof light and police radio are also part of the setup.

Clearly, no officers will be transporting suspects with these cars. They also likely won’t be engaging in any chases, unless someone uses a golf cart as a getaway vehicle. Their size is an advantage in the crowded city, which actually is pretty helpful, even if officers look a little ridiculous driving them.
