Nissan’s NISMO to Become a Full Sub-Brand as it Spreads to More Models

Since debuting in 2013, Nissan’s line of NISMO vehicles hasn’t really set the world on fire – excluding the GT-R NISMO, of course. But the automaker looks to change this with the creation of a complete NISMO sub-brand in the near future.

Currently, the U.S. has four NISMO models in the GT-R, 370Z, Juke, and Sentra, while the global market also has the Patrol and Note NISMO. These have accounted for 15,000 sales to date, but Nissan is looking to grow this significantly.

To achieve the growth it wants, Nissan is pooling resources from Autech Japan, NISMO Cars Business Department, and itself to create more NISMO models in a shorter order. It is also looking to expand the NISMO tuning to cover more models and international markets, and make it a full-on sub-brand.

Unfortunately, there are no details on which models Nissan is planning to give the NISMO touch. Logic would say the Versa Note is a surefire candidate for NISMO tuning, as are the Maxima and Altima. On the crossover side, the only one that makes even the slightest sense would be the Rogue, but that seems unlikely. There is also no mention of whether the amount of tuning will be more significant in the future.

There is no information on when the new NISMO sub-brand will finally arrive, but it shouldn’t be too long. We’ll bring you updates once they are available.
