When the new-generation Camaro rolled out with its lower curb weight, new four-cylinder engine, and smaller footprint, the public received it very well, but it was clearly missing one piece: the 1LE package. Today, Chevrolet has officially announced that it will soon offer this handling package for the 2017 model year Camaro.

This package will only be available with select trim levels with V-6 or V-8 power, specifically the 1LT, 2LT, and 1SS. Between the LT and SS models, there are mild differences in what the 1LE package adds in.

For the LT models with the 3.6-liter V-6 engine, the 1LE package tosses in the Camaro SS’s FE3 suspension bits, Brembo four-piston calipers, and sticky Goodyear Eagle F1 rubber. The net results from adding this package is a 0.97G rating on the skid pad. With this sort of grip, you may find yourself slipping off the Camaro’s base seats, so Chevy added a set of optional Recaro seats to hold you in place. Also available is the Performance Data Recorder, so you can relive your track-day accomplishments.

For the V-8-powered SS models, the 1LE package goes a little deeper with magnetic ride control, FE4 suspension tuning, Brembo brakes with six-piston calipers and 14.6-inch two-piece rotors up front, a segment-exclusive electronic limited-slip diff, and grippy Goodyear Eagle F1 rubber wrapped around lightweight 20s. This all amounts to a skid pad rating in excess of 1G. Unlike the LT models, the SS with the 1LE package includes the Recaro seats and Performance Data Recorder.

Also included with both 1LE packages are oil, differential and transmission coolers, a suede steering wheel, a short-throw shifter, a dual-mode exhaust, a satin-black hood and rear spoiler, and high-flow front grilles with black accents. The LT models also get the Camaro SS’s fuel system and a satin-black front splitter while the SS models gain a Satin Graphite front splitter and rear diffuser.

The 1LE packages will hit dealers in late 2016, and pricing will come closer to that time. We’ll bring you all the details once they become available.
