Mini USA Celebrates 15 Years
It might sound unbelievable, but Mini USA has turned 15 years-old. Back in March of 2002, the British brand returned to America under the guidance of BMW and has been a constant presence in the market since.
Sure, some people criticize Mini for its growing and “bloated” lineup of cars, including a four-door crossover. At the same time, Mini isn’t like boring automakers that just pump out beige model after beige model for people to drive to a job they absolutely hate.
No, Mini holds events like Mini Takes the States where so far over 25,000 owners have gotten to know each other and had a good time in their bloated small cars while driving around the country. They don’t care if you think the original Minis were pure and their cars aren’t. Instead, they proudly get a Union Jack or checkboard pattern on the roof of their vehicle, along with all kinds of other crazy factory-installed customizations, and love it.
So what does the next 15 years have in store for Mini? Electrification is a new area of growth. Beyond that, who knows? Maybe a roadster that will actually sell? Considering the changes we’ve seen so far, just about anything seems possible.
