Mercedes-Benz has finally released just about all the information there is to divulge on the new G-Class, which will likely be a 2015 model around the world and a 2016 model in the U.S. Along with these details came the announcement of a new special-edition model dubbed the Mercedes-AMG Edition 463.

Mercedes will base this special model on the standard AMG G65 and AMG G63.

The G65 comes powered by a retooled 6.0-liter V-12 engine that puts out 463 kW (620 horsepower) and 1,000 Nm (738 pound-feet) of torque. These new specs represent a 13 kW (17-horsepower) increase over the previous G65. The G63 uses the same 5.5-liter V-8 engine as last year, but with output pushed to 420 kW (563 horsepower) and 760 Nm (51 pound-feet) of torque. This gives the new G63 20 kW (20 horsepower) more than the outgoing model.

What separates the 463 Edition from the standard G65 and G63 are its small styling details.

Inside the cabin, this special model includes a two-tone instrument panel, Designo leather two-tone seats with carbon-look bolsters, contrast stitching, diamond-tufted seats and door panels, Nappa leather door pulls, and carbon-fiber trim. The exterior also has a few updates, like a stainless steel under guard, AMG sport stripes, a black-aluminum molding, and exclusive 21-inch forged-alloy wheels.

While these updates may seem minor for a special edition, anything to push the super-luxurious G-Class to a new level is impressive.

There is no mention of pricing or a release date for the G65 and G63 463 Edition, but expect a pretty healthy price bump over the base models. There is also no news on whether this model will make it to the U.S., or not. In terms of production numbers, I bet that Mercedes will limit production of these special SUVs to fewer than 3,000 units.

Stay tuned for more details on this model and the entire 2016 Mercedes-Benz G-Class lineup.
