Mercedes-AMG Tosses a GT R Teaser at us… Drooling Ensues
The Mercedes-AMG GT has been a very capable spiritual successor to the SLS, and according to new teaser images found by Mercedes-Benz Passion, it will soon get even better.
The new teaser images give us the first glimpse into what will be the hottest of the GTs, the GT R. And they are nothing short of incredible as they show off new vents on the fenders with more prominent inserts, more-aggressive air inlets on the front bumper, a new grille with what look to be vertical bars and a larger tri-point star, a carbon-fiber roof and mirror caps, a huge rear spoiler, and yellow accents throughout the cabin.
One area that the teasers don’t dive into is the powertrain, but there are plenty of hints. First, there is the “V8 Biturbo” logo in the fender vent, indicating that this is the same 4.0-liter V-8 as the GT S. Then, there’s the ominous license plate that reads “S GT 585.” The last three numbers likely allude to the engine cranking out a massive 585 ponies—82 horsepower more than the GT S.
In addition to the extra power, there are rumors that claim this model will be a whopping 175 pounds lighter than the GT S. I am sure the carbon-fiber roof and mirror caps that we see in the teaser images have a lot to do with this weight loss.
Stay tuned for updates, as we expect to see the GT R break cover at the Goodwood Festival of Speed later this month (June 23 to 26).
