Mercedes-AMG Boss Thinks Focus RS Drift Mode Is Cute
Not everyone is impressed with Drift Mode for the Focus RS. One critic of the tech is Tobias Moers, the head of Mercedes-AMG. Many think the guy knows performance, yet he went on in a recent interview with Motoring about how much distaste he has for Ford’s drifting feature.
Moers called the Ford Focus RS “okay.” Not “respectable.” Not, “impressive.” Not “engaging.” Okay is a polite way of not saying something not very nice.
He then went on to explain that while Drift Mode is useful for doing donuts on closed courses, using it on a race track is “not possible.” Someone should probably send the many videos of people using Drift Mode on tracks, although I have a funny feeling he won’t be impressed.
In America, we’re not as in tune with the fact that Mercedes-AMG does compete against the little Ford Focus RS, thanks to the A45 AMG. The performance brand somehow has squeezed out 381 horsepower from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.
While that’s impressive and all, trying to say Ford created an essentially useless technology that’s already brought much hooning joy is a little, shall we say, ridiculous? What do you all think, though? Is Drift Mode just a bunch of garbage, or is Moers just jealous? Sound off below.
