Finally, the McLaren Sports Series is here with the early unveiling of the 570S, and it’s a good bit different than I thought it would be. I thought it would just be a detuned clone of the 650S and P1, but instead it is a far different vehicle that so happens to draw its inspiration from its big brothers.

The body clearly takes many of its cues from the 650S and P1, but it has its own distinct personality that is evident in the images. The headlights are shaped differently, the front air intakes are distinct, the taillights are completely different, and even the rear glass is different. McLaren really did a fine job bringing in the looks of its higher-end cars without making the 570S a clone.

The look of the body isn’t the only thing that is new, as the 570S’ carbon-fiber monocell is also unique. This lightweight monocell weighs only 176.4 pounds, which when combined with the aluminum body panels on the 570S, results in a curb weight of only 2,895 pounds.

The interior of the 57S is a thing of beauty to, as the floating center console with that massive touchscreen adds a touch of class and technology. Additionally, McLaren trimmed the 650S’ cabin in supple leather, and it features Bluetooth connectivity, SiriusXM radio, and a TFT instrument cluster. Optional goodies include nappa leather, carbon-fiber add-ons, an eight-speaker audio system and a 12-speaker audio system with 1,280 watts.

Under the hood of the McLaren 650S is the brand’s tried-and-true 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine. This V-8 pushes 562 horsepower at 7,400 rpm and 443 pound-feet of torque between 5,000 and 6,500 revs through a seven-sped SSG transmission. While this V-8 shares most of its construction with the 3.8-liter in the 650S, this version does have 30 percent new parts.

This powerful drivetrain allows the first member of the Sports Series to hit 62 mph in just 3.2 seconds and 124 mph in just 9.5 seconds. The 570S tops out at a whopping 204 mph.

Going fast is great, but you have to control it too. Helping in this department is a newly designed suspension system with adaptive dampers, and front and rear anti-roll bars. At the corners are Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires sized 225/35R19 up front and 285/35R20 out back. Bringing the rig to a halt is a standard carbon-ceramic brake system.

There is no mention of prices or a release date for the McLaren 570S, but we’ll likely learn more during its full debut on April 1, 2015.
