Marchionne Confirms Ferrari SUV Rumors And More
It’s official: Ferrari will build an SUV. Sorry, Ferrari purists, but CEO Sergio Marchionne told Bloomberg this week that it’s happening for sure. In fact, Ferrari already has several prototype models, and looks to have the SUV ready to unleash on the market by summer 2020.
You can expect this SUV to be able to drive on dirt, something people would never do with a regular Ferrari. It also will be the only Ferrari model with four doors.
There are many, many unanswered questions. Chief on everyone’s minds is if this thing will be ugly or not. We have no idea, but the likelihood is high. Still, Ferrari sees a chance to make big bucks.
Marchionne, who you may know is CEO of Fiat Chrysler as well, also mentioned the supposed buyout of Jeep by Great Wall and half the automakers in China. He said flat out Jeep isn’t for sale. He actually replied that selling off Jeep would create a “worrisome stump” in FCA, because it’s the best-selling brand by far.
However, he did not address the rumors of a merger or buyout with Hyundai. That, of course, doesn’t mean it’s happening. But it would’ve been a good time to dispel that rumor as well.
