Magna Steyr Will Build BMW-Toyota Roadster

If it seems like the future BMW-Toyota sports car, or the glorious return of the Supra, is taking forever, you’re not alone. We first heard about this brave endeavor years ago, and still there’s no car.

Finally, we have some interesting news about it actually being made. Automotive News Europe says that Toyota and BMW are using Magna Steyr to build it in Austria. Supposedly the car will start rolling off the assembly line in 2018, with about 60,000 shipping worldwide each year.

This mysterious future car will not only be the basis for a possible future Supra, but also the BMW Z5, if you’re one to believe such rumors. BMW has said over and over it will come out with a replacement for the Z4. Anyone who’s a fan of roadsters should rejoice, because there’s been a shortage of them lately. Of course, a huge recession might have had something to do with that.

For those of you who don’t recognize the Magna Steyr name, it’s the same company that makes the Mercedes G-Class. BMW has used the company to manufacture other vehicles, like the Mini Paceman. Magna Steyr is also making a mysterious new vehicle for Jaguar Land Rover starting in 2017.
