M3 and M4 to get New Suspension, Tech, and a Price Hike in 2017
The 2017 models are starting to make their way into dealers, and BMW has just unveiled a slew of changes to its lineup for the new model year. With models as young as the M3 and M4 siblings, I would typically expect only minor changes, but BMW is blowing that expectation out of the water by making a key change to the undercarriage of these two performance rigs.
The big news for the 2017 M3 and M4 is the movement of the Adaptive M Suspension from the Competition Package to being a standard feature. This system uses electronically controlled shock absorbers that adjust to changing road conditions, assuring there is optimal grip in all conditions. This not only help in the tossability department, but it will also help boost comfort a bit.
The rest of the changes are relatively minor for the new year, but they still deserve a mention or two. Inside, drivers will find that the new iDrive 5.0 electronics interface is now standard, giving them the latest and greatest in infotainment. On the optional side of things, there is a new Individual Extended Merino Leather with a leather dashboard package and the Executive Package now has wireless charging, Wi-Fi, and Enhance USB and Bluetooth.
On the outside, buyers can choose from a new line of Individual Metallic paints.
With the new features also come new prices. The 2017 M3 will start from $64,995 while the M4 Coupe and Convertible will start from $67,195 and $75,695, respectively (destination fees included). These prices represent $500 increases over the 2016 models’ prices—a small fee to pay for the Adaptive M Suspension.
