Last year, Lotus gifted weekend warriors everywhere the taste of a supercar without the big price tag with its Exige Sport 350. Now, a year later, Lotus is releasing a new supercar-on-the-cheap with the new Exige Sport 380.

This new Sport 380 features a carbon-fiber front spoiler, a rubber lip spoiler, and carbon-fiber barge panels to help keep lift to a minimum at high speeds. Also working to keep the Sport 380 planted on the tarmac is a body kit that includes two pairs of canard wings just ahead of the front wheels, a carbon-fiber rear wing, and air blades behind the rear wheels. This body kit produces a decent 309 pounds of downward force at its top speed.

The 380 is further set off with its 10 exclusive color options, blackened headlight surrounds, and new two-lamp clusters

The Exige Sport 380 also underwent a comprehensive weight-loss program, when compared to the 350. This model features carbon-fiber aero bits, a polycarbonate rear window, carbon-fiber racing seats, a lithium-ion battery, lightweight wheels, and two-piece rotors for total weight loss of 58 pounds, relative to the 350 model. Buyers can further cut the weight by 22 pounds by opting for the titanium exhaust system. Altogether, the Exige Sport 380 weighs as little as 2,447 pounds as standard and 2,425 pounds with the lightweight exhaust (manual-transmission models).

Inside, the Exige 380’s carbon seats are wrapped in either Alcantara, leather or tartan, all with contrast stitching, and the shifter linkage is exposed, showing its commitment to weight savings. The optional Interior Color Pack adds accents to the transmission console, HVAC surround, carbon seat eyelets, and electric window bezels. There are also carbon-fiber door sills for a little extra style.

Powering the Exige Sport 380 is the same 3.5-liter supercharged V-6 as the 350, but Lotus cranked its wick to 375 horsepower and 302 pound-feet of torque – increases of 30 horsepower and 7 pound-feet. This added power comes from a revised supercharger pulley that boosts pressure, an ECU tune, and a new exhaust system. This power routes through a standard six-speed transmission or an optional six-speed auto transmission on its way to the rear wheels.

All said, this new model sprints to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds (0.2 seconds quicker than the 350) and tops out at 178 mph with the manual transmission (170 mph with the auto).

The Lotus Exige Sport 380 will start at £67,900 ($84,576) in the U.K., €89,900 ($95,240) in Germany, and ¥12,760,000 ($113,214) in Japan.
