Lexus Teases the Revised 2016 ES
Lexus has gold in its lineup with the ES line of sedans. In 2014, it led the highly competitive midsize luxury sedan segment by a fairly wide margin. What’s more, this victory came despite the fact that its looks are flat when compared to some of its key rivals. According to a press release from Lexus, the luxury automaker plans to address these flat looks with the 2016 ES even better, as it will come with an updated appearance.
This updated Lexus ES will make its debut on April 22, 2015 at the Shanghai Auto Show. Along with the announcement of its debut, Lexus also revealed a teaser image that shows off the headlight and part of the fascia.
From this teaser image, it’s clear that the 2016 ES will carry fully redesigned headlights with more angles and a more defined signature checkmark. Additionally, it looks as if Lexus has also enhanced the grille slightly and made the angles harder on the front bumper. Expect to see similar changes on the rear fascia and the taillights.
What’s going on inside the cabin remains a mystery, but I can only assume that Lexus will eliminate or completely revise its infotainment system. Currently, the ES has a mouse-like input system for the infotainment system, and almost every review of this model includes at least one complaint about this distracting system.
Under the hood, expect the ES to carry on with the same two powertrains is has in 2015. This means the ES 350 will feature a 3.5-liter V-6 engine and the ES 300h will use a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor. Lexus may retune these engines slightly to enhance their fuel economy and output, but don’t expect anything too crazy.
We’ll bring you all of the details as they roll out.
