Lexus Launches the 2016 RC Coupe With Powertrain Changes
The 2016 models just keep on coming, and Lexus is getting in on the fun with the RC Coupe. While the outward appearance of the sporty coupe looks nearly unchanged, there is a lot of new stuff going on under the skin.
The biggest news is the introduction of the new RC 200t. Those of you who follow Lexus know what that means; the RC has gone turbocharged. Under the hood of this version of the RC is the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder used in the Lexus NX 200t, GS 200t, and IS 200t, which means it produces 241 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This version of the RC is available only with rear-wheel drive and an eight-speed auto transmission.
Also new is the RC 300, which splits the difference between the RC 200t and the RC 350. This model uses a detuned version of the 3.5-liter V-6 that produces 255 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. This model is only available with all-wheel drive and uses a six-speed manual gearbox.
The RC 350 continues on with its 3.5-liter V-6 that produces 306 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. This engine pairs up with an eight=speed auto transmission, and from what I can tell, only comes with rear-wheel drive – all-wheel drive was an option in 2015.
The RC 350 is also available in an F Sport variant, like last year. For the 2016 model year, however, this model features electronic suspension damping and rear-wheel steering.
Lexus has not revealed a release date for the 2016 RC Coupe, but given we are nearing the end of the 2015 calendar year, it shouldn’t be too long. Keep it locked here for all the latest on this new rig.
