Kia Cadenza Snags Top IIHS Safety Rating

If you’re searching for a safe large sedan, you might want to check out the 2017 Kia Cadenza. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) just announced the car earned a Top Safety Pick+ award.

To earn such an honor, the Cadenza performed excellently during a series of crash tests, plus flew through the front crash prevention test with flying colors, and even passed with acceptable headlights. IIHS has made earning a Top Safety Pick+ award more difficult than ever, which makes the Cadenza that much more impressive.

The 2017 model marks the first year of the Cadenza’s new design. Of course, you can’t get the stripped-down version and expect the same results. IIHS tested the Cadenza with the optional Forward Collision Warning System and Autonomous Emergency Braking. Those technologies successfully avoided frontal crashes at 12 mph and 25 mph.

You’ll also need to opt for the Limited or Technology trims, because those come with full LED headlights. If you get the halogen headlights on the Premium trim, know those earned a poor rating.

So there you go, a Kia is one of the safest full-size sedans out there. Most people wouldn’t have believed that 15 years ago, yet here we are.
