Jaguar Outlines the U.S.-Spec XE Lineup
The Jaguar XE is no spring chicken, as it’s been in the works for quite some time. However, we’ve been waiting to learn what Jag’s new entry-level sedan will be packing under its hood when it hits U.S. shores. Well, the wait is over, as the British automaker has announced the two engines that are heading Stateside.
The XE sedan will hit U.S. showrooms with two models: 35t and the 20d. The 35t features the same 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 unit as the F-Type, which is good for 340 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. This engine mates to an eight-speed auto transmission that features paddle shifters for you control freaks and a rotary shifter. This powertrain sprints the smallest Jag sedan to 60 mph in just 4.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 155 mph.
The more surprising of the two models is the 20d. You guessed it, the “d” stands for “diesel.” This 2.0-liter Ingenium diesel engine produces 180 horsepower at 4,000 rpm and 318 pound-feet of torque between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm. Like the 35t, this engine also mates to an eight-speed auto transmission, but it is significantly slower at 7.4 seconds to 60 mph and a top speed of 140 mph.
Both the 35t and 20d models will come standard with rear-wheel drive, but Jag does mention that both will also be available all-wheel drive.
Both the XE 35t and the 20d will be available in three trim levels: Premium, Prestige, and R-Sport. The only trim level that Jaguar gets into any detail with is the R-Sport, which will feature large front air intakes, satin-chrome side vents, gloss-black window surrounds, side-sill extensions, and a small rear spoiler. Buyers looking for more can add optional 20-inch forged-alloy wheels.
The 2017 Jaguar XE will hit showrooms in the U.S. in the spring of 2016, while the rest of the world will see it in 2015. Prices will come out as we get closer to its release date.
