There are all kinds of technologies coming out these days to help eek more miles out of every tank of gas. A growing number of cars on the road use a hybrid powertrain, while electric cars are making headway and there is still talk of hydrogen vehicles helping ease our dependency on gas.

Even with all of this innovative technology there are some vehicles that drink down gas like a thirsty sailor in a seaside bar. If you were to own any of the vehicles on the 2013 Gas Guzzler List you would by necessity have to memorize the location of all of the gas stations in your area and frequent them regularly. At least you could pick up a slushy or a candy bar with each visit, which would be a small consolation for the heaps of cash you’ll spend on fuel. That being said, some of the biggest gas guzzlers on our list are ultra-expensive so you can more than likely afford the gas if you own one of them.

The king of the SUVs is the Suburban and its Yukon XL brother, both of which can come with room for up to nine occupants plus quite a bit of cargo. And both trucks can haul some pretty heavy trailers behind them. But the price to be paid for all of that functionality is 10 mpg in the city and 15 mpg on the highway, meaning your family road trip will be littered with plenty of gas station stops.
