Honda Expands Recalls Even More

If you or someone you know owns a Honda, there’s a good chance it has been recalled. The company has recently announced more than 100,000 vehicles in the United States have been added to the growing ranks of recalled models, all because of the defective airbag inflators from Takata.

These recalls are incredibly serious and should be acted on by everyone immediately. The flaw causes the inflators to shrapnel when the airbag is activated, sending the debris tearing through the airbag and into the person it’s supposed to protect. In some cases, the injuries were severe enough that first responders through the victims had been stabbed.

This round of recalls involve the 2008 Honda Pilot, 2001 Accord and 2004 Civic Sedan. Local dealers can swap out the recalled parts free of charge. Honda also says that if parts availability causes a delay, rather than have consumers driving around in dangerous vehicles, it will provide a loaner or rental vehicle for free.

On March 16 Honda launched a new public awareness campaign, all in an effort to help owners understand how dangerous the situation is. The goal is to encourage people to take advantage of the offer to change out the problematic parts. The push involves television and radio spots, full-color ads in over 120 newspapers, plus Internet ads. In addition, Honda is paying for customized posts on Facebook that will display the exact model owned by different users, hopefully catching their attention that way.

Of course, Honda isn’t the only automaker affected by the faulty Takata airbags, but it has had the majority of them. At least ten other car companies have also been affected, which has led to the recall of millions of vehicles. Still, Honda’s image has taken somewhat of a beating with the recalls. Some speculate that the recent departure of the company’s CEO was triggered by the Takata fallout, although Honda has not confirmed that fact.

These are all of the recalled Honda models so far:
2001-2007 Honda Accord
2001-2005 Honda Civic
2002-2006 Honda CR-V
2003-2011 Honda Element
2002-2004 Honda Odyssey
2003-2007 Honda Pilot
2006 Honda Ridgeline
2003-2006 Acura MDX
2002-2003 Acura TL
2003 Acura CL
2005 Acura RL
