Here is the Mini Electric
Well this is bizarre. Mini has been hard at work on an all-electric version of the 3 Door, so it comes to the New York International Auto Show with an… all-electric version of the old-school Cooper. BMW calls it the Mini Electric. This is not a joke.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan of the original Minis. I laugh every time I see one, literally out loud. They’re a blast. But what was the point of making a big deal out of this car?
The official press release goes on about nostalgia and the unique nature of the car. Is it using a prototype version of the future EV’s powertrain? One can only assume, because BMW brass won’t say. Instead, they go on about the immediate torque delivery, which everyone knows about EVs by now. Oh, and it has special badges so you know, if you ever see this one-of-a-kind car at a show or museum, what it is.
Basically, this is just a big false alarm. Maybe we’ll see the all-electric Mini this fall.
