Google Turns To Fiat Chrysler For Help

Lately, Fiat Chrysler has been a little on the desperate side to partner up with other automakers or big tech companies. It looks like Google’s taking advantage of that, but both companies could win out.

Google and Fiat Chrysler are going to outfit about 100 Pacifica Hybrids with autonomous drive sensors and computers. It’s actually not an easy process to engineer the setup, so having the help of an automaker is pretty big for Google.

This will about double the number of test vehicles in the self-driving program. The more vehicles and feedback Google’s getting, the sooner it will have fully autonomous vehicles.

Up until now, Google’s pretty much been on its own with the whole self-driving car project. With Fiat Chrysler as a partner, the two companies are actually assembling a team of engineers that will work together in the same building.

This is a big development for Fiat Chrysler. Most people don’t really consider the company to be a tech leader, but the upcoming Pacifica Hybrid’s fuel economy figures sound incredible. It could be a turning point for the company as it works with Google to create super-intelligent cars that don’t need humans anymore.
