Forget Plugging In EVs, Company Wants To Refuel Them

Let’s face it: electric vehicles still aren’t as practical as traditional internal-combustion cars. That makes EV fanboys fly into a fit of rage, but even a Tesla Supercharger takes far longer to “refuel” a vehicle than pumping gas. People are busy, squeezed for time. And don’t even start pointing out how in California, where electric cars are fairly popular, there are lines to use some public chargers.

Before you think this means EVs are a passing fad, you should know that NanoFlowcell is looking to improve the tech. The company has a design where you would literally refuel an electric car instead of plugging it in.

Instead of filling up the tank with gasoline, drivers pump in a bi-ION electrolyte solution. One tank has a positively charged liquid, the other negatively charged liquid. Among the benefits, the bi-ION electrolyte liquid isn’t flammable and it doesn’t pollute the air. Refueling takes a few minutes, just like pumping gas.

NanoFlowcell says the electrolyte mixture can be made pretty much anywhere in the world, so transporting it wouldn’t be an issue. Apparently, the liquid doesn’t pose any kind of health risk, either.

Sound too good to be true? It kind of does, but if it works we could see a serious fuel revolution. Until there’s solid proof this bi-ION solution is practical, everyone should remain skeptical.
