Ford Wants You To Think Cloth Seats Are An Upgrade
Ford thinks you’ll pay more to have cloth seats, at least in a way. That might sound weird, but if you stop and analyze the new SEL Sport appearance package for the 2018 Edge, that’s exactly what you’re doing.
Okay, sure, you’re getting a few other things in the package, mostly exterior appearance tweaks. One of the main features is upgraded cloth upholstery, which features sueded inserts. As The Car Connection pointed out, the way Ford’s spinning this upgrade is odd. Apparently, you don’t want leather upholstery, because it’s hotter on sunny days. Yes, Ford is using a Jedi mind trick to sell this option, and I don’t know if it’ll work. After all, ventilation for front seats is becoming more common. That, and you can always put up a sun shade in the windshield when you park.
Apparently, the good people of Dallas agree with Ford. Representatives at the Blue Oval reportedly said cloth is slightly more popular there than in other portions of the country.
Just how much this SEL Sport appearance package will add to the $32,500 price tag for the Edge SEL hasn’t been announced yet. Hopefully it won’t be much. After all, how much can sueded inserts really cost to produce?
