The GT is one of the most iconic Ford rigs ever to see the production line, and much of its popularity stems from its incredible racing career under the GT40 badge. One of its biggest successes was the 1966 Le Mans, where it had an incredible 1-2-3 finish under the careful piloting of Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon, and four other drivers. Today, Ford is paying homage to the No. 2 rig that McLaren and Amon drove to the top spot with a new GT ’66 Heritage Edition.

This special model is all about the aesthetics, as it boasts a livery inspired by McLaren and Amon’s race car. It features a Shadow Black exterior hue that is available in either matte or gloss, silver stripes, a Frozen White “2” on the hood and doors, and gold-colored 20-inch forged-aluminum wheels with black lug nuts. The only part of this special GT that doesn’t take you back to 1966 is it standard carbon-fiber package and its insanely modern body.

Inside, things are understandably more modern than the racer that McLaren piloted. Here, Ford installed Ebony leather with pillowed inserts and plow-through stitching, a debossed “GT” logo on each headrest, Ebony leather on the dash, pillars and headliner, gold accents on the dash, seat X-braces and shifter paddles, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, blue-webbing seat belts, a “#2” interior door graphic, naked matte-carbon-fiber door sills, air register pods and center console, and a serialized plaque.

Buyers can build their GT ’66 Heritage Edition now at FordGT.com. Ford has not announced pricing for this limited edition, nor has it announced how many it will produce.

Stay tuned for updates.
