Believe it or not, GM doesn’t have the market cornered when it comes to vehicle recalls. Plenty of other automakers have to issue them. For example, Ford recently recalled close to a half million models for a problem with the power steering system.

More specifically, the Blue Oval recalled the vehicles because of various reports that the electric power steering system cuts in and out. That would mean that suddenly a person would be driving a vehicle without any steering assist, which could easily result in a crash.

So far, four small accidents have been tied to the power steering issue. Even though nobody’s been injured, Ford’s not taking chances. Models in the United States market that are affected are the 2011-2012 Ford Fusion, 2011-2013 Ford Taurus, 2011-2013 Ford Flex, 2011-2013 Lincoln MKS, 2011-2013 Lincoln MKT, 2011-2013 Lincoln MKZ and 2011 Mercury Milan.

If you or someone you know owns one of the effected vehicles, a dealership can scan for the diagnostic codes to see if the vehicle needs a software or mechanical upgrade.

That’s not the end of Ford’s recent recall woes. It’s recalling about 19,500 Mustang EcoBoosts because of a problem with high underbody temperatures. The issue could actually cause fuel lines to rupture, damage the fuel tank or even blow the parking brake cable seals, which is of course a bad thing. The fix involves installing some new insulating materials on the car’s underbody.

While touching on the subject of Ford recalls, it’s worth mentioning that the automaker has also been affected by the massive Takata airbag issue. Faulty inflators can rupture after exploding with too much force, sending shrapnel through the airbags and into the driver or front passenger. Almost 967,000 Fords are part of the recall, which include the 2004-2006 Ford Ranger, 2005-2014 Ford Mustang and 2005-2006 Ford GT. Because of the seriousness of the recall, driving the vehicle before having a dealer perform the fix isn’t recommended.
