Ah, damn those leaks… It looks like another lowly intern mistakenly hit the “publish” button while trying to preview a new feature on Ford’s webpage and ended up publishing the Focus RS’ configurator for a few minutes. The savvy fellas over at Jalopnik’s Car Buying page picked up on this mistake and quickly grabbed as much info as they could.

The big news is that the Focus RS will actually start at a significantly lower price point, given this leak is accurate. The published starting MSRP came in at $35,730, whereas initial reports indicated that the RS would start just barely under $40,000. Now, for those of you who want more premium features, like the leather Recaro seats, navigation, and more, a fully optioned-up RS will set you back $42,275.

Unfortunately, Ford quickly caught its error and has since ripped the configurator offline. Autoblog reached out to Ford regarding the RS’ price, and they received the canned “we don’t respond to price speculation” response.

Typically, leaks of this nature are pretty accurate, as these microsite are often ready to launch months before the car hits dealer lots. Ford’s technical team was likely doing a little QA on it when it mistakenly published it.

Luckily for Ford, the price is only $1,035 more than the base WRX STI and it’s a healthy $865 cheaper than the Golf R. So, if people were on the fence about buying the Focus RS before, due to its rumored price, they are likely now chomping at the bit to put a deposit down at this lower-than-expected MSRP.

I must remind you that despite the likelihood that this leak is accurate, it is still unconfirmed. So, proceed with caution, folks, and don’t go cashing out of your retirement fund just yet.
