With a new-generation Ford Mustang comes a slew of new performance versions of said pony car. We’ve already seen the GT350 and GT350R models and learned about the Shelby GT, but there are still plenty of others to roll down the line soon. Just today we received firm confirmation from Ford Racing that the track-only version of the Mustang, the Boss 302S, is indeed in the works and will be out in 2016.

This comes by way of a placeholder that Ford’s racing arm place on its Website. The product is titled “2016 Road Race Must Placeholder Order,” but it’s the part number that is so telling. The part number in question is “M-FR500-B302S,” which so happens to be the same part number Ford Racing used for the last Boss 302S.

In the placeholder page, there are a few small details, but nothing that tells us what the kit will include. The biggest bits of information are that it will be released in the first quarter of 2016 and that it will carry a base price tag of $89,995. There is also a brief description that reads “Ford Racing road race Mustangs are factory-built race cars, ready for track days and road racing in a number of SCCA and NASA classes.”

If the 2016 Boss 302S is anything like the last one, don’t expect much in the way of engine tuning, as this rig is mostly tuned for reliability and handling. So, look for things like an upgraded cooling system, a special transmission, an updated suspension and chassis, tons of aerodynamic work, and a gutted, race-focused cabin.

With this placeholder online, look for Ford Racing to reveal the new Boss 302S in the coming months. We’ll bring you all of the full details once they roll out.
