Finally A Smart Car That Can Blow You Away

Most car enthusiasts find Smart cars to be rather boring, and rightfully so. Daimler recently announced that it has finally built a version of the micro vehicle that will blow people away, only not in the way you’re likely thinking of.

Thanks to some help from JBL, the automaker created what it’s calling the “smallest mobile concert hall.” Based on the Smart Fortwo, the Smart Forgigs is packed with an impressive sound system that boasts a total maximum power output of 5,720 watts.

While you could take the little car out and blast some annoyingly loud tunes while cruising through neighborhoods, Smart actually thought of some constructive uses for the car. It says that street musicians could use the thing as a mobile amplifier. Considering how much it likely costs to outfit a Fortwo with that kind of a sound system, those would be some pretty well-heeled street performers.

The sound system includes five different amplifiers, which can kick out up to 150 dB. They’re hooked up to four type JBL GtO 609 C loudspeaker sets, with two tweeters and two mid-range speakers in each configuration. Complimenting the 16 speakers are two subwoofers, with a 30 centimeter diameter for each. Mosconi provided a digital signal processor (DSP) that can use eight channels for output, plus work with Bluetooth streaming.

When people use the Smart Forgigs, they can set the right mood both on the car’s interior and exterior with the included ambient lighting, making it the ultimate party vehicle. That’s not something most people would anticipate ever saying about a Smart, but this concept car is pretty crazy.

Don’t hold our breath for Daimler to give the go-ahead with a production version of the Smart Forgig. If you think a regular Fortwo is cramped, the subwoofers and some of the speakers chew up the tiny cargo space you would normally be able to use for a couple of Whole Foods bags, meaning those would have to be transported on the passenger’s lap.
