Faraday Future Reveals The FFZero1 Concept Car (Video)
The wait is finally over, with Faraday Future showing the world what’s been hiding in shadows: the FFZero1 Concept. The mysterious new electric automaker put on quite the show at CES, complete with cheesy synthesizer music straight out of an 80s movie.
When the sheet was pulled from the FFZero1 Concept, the room was virtually silent. Either everyone’s breath was taken away by the car’s incredibly daring styling, or they were half expecting the company’s executives to start laughing and to announce that the whole thing was a prank.
To say that the FFZero1 Concept isn’t conventional in its looks is stating the obvious. The new automaker decided to reveal a high performance model with a single seat, huge tail and not a single ounce of practicality. Many were expecting a hatchback of some sort, and instead Faraday Future delivered something it says was designed to “fight ugliness.”
The FFZero1 is somewhat reminiscent of certain “rocket car” concepts that were shown off as the vehicles of the future by American automakers back in the day. It has all kinds of interesting exterior details, including “aero tunnels” in the front, a big diffuser, a center fin and a cockpit-like roof/windshield.
According to Faraday, the FFZero1 rides on a modular platform it calls VPA. It claims that the technology is so scalable that it can accommodate pretty much any number of drive configurations, batteries or body types/sizes. VPA supposedly cuts down vehicle development time in a huge way, which would explain why the company says it will have a production model ready in the near future.
This concept vehicle, with all four drive units installed, boasts an amazing 1,000 horsepower. It’s also supposed to go from 0 to 60 mph in under three seconds and has a top speed above 200 mph. For now these figures are all theoretical since the car on the stage at CES was just an empty shell.
As for the interior, Faraday showed off a zero gravity seat, which was inspired by NASA like the ones Nissan uses. The steering wheel has a smartphone dock in the middle.
While the FFZero1 is a concept vehicle, one can only imagine what a production Faraday car will be like. At this point anything is possible, both good and bad.
