Faraday Future Might Actually Make Some Cars

After the completely disastrous reveal of the FFZero1 Concept in January and numerous struggles since, many had counted Faraday Future basically out of the automotive market. That was obviously a premature judgment, because the company is going to make some real cars, ones that can actually be driven and not just sit on a stage and look weird.

Really.

The Car Connection dug up official documents from the state of California that grant Faraday Future approval to test autonomous cars on public roads. Apparently, the automaker isn’t ready to start those up immediately (shocker) but will be launching them sometime later in 2016.

Faraday Future makes all kinds of broad, dramatic statements about completely transforming man’s relationship with cars, transportation and puff marketing. While Tesla Motors has been able to shake up things some, there have been many, many other startup automakers that have come and gone while talking about big ideas and utopian societies.

If the company really wants to get people excited, it needs to make some attractive, practical vehicles that the average person can afford. An electric pickup or off-roader would create some buzz, but something like that’s also a big gamble and probably won’t happen. At the very least, Faraday Future needs to develop a small crossover instead of a weird sports car that looks like a rejected design for the Batmobile.
