As we reported before, Faraday Future is a fledgling automaker that’s shrouded in mystery. While some assert the company is nothing more than a front to mask Apple’s Titan electric car project, there are some indications it’s actually yet another new player in the industry that’s backed by Chinese investors.

Whatever Faraday Future is, the automaker has announced it will be making a big reveal at CES on January 4. If you visit the company website, there’s even a cool countdown clock like what cartoon villains would use. That’s not to imply anything about Faraday Future, because at the moment there’s far too little to go on.

On January 4, 2016 we’ll all be treated to the reveal of a concept vehicle. The company says that it places a high value on cutting-edge technology and user-friendly principles, which could be interpreted a number of ways. Other focuses for Faraday Future include urban crowding, people’s busy calendars and limited energy resources.

While there’s no telling just what kind of a vehicle will take the stage, but we know that the car will be fully-electric and autonomous, to one degree or another. It’s likely that the production version of the car won’t be owned in a traditional sense, but will have a nontraditional structure that could rival services such as Uber or Car2Go. That highly important detail could be at least partially revealed at CES, or the concept could raise even more questions.

One other tall order is being taken on by Faraday Future: connecting cars to everything else in a person’s life. That’s a fairly nebulous concept that could be approached from a number of different angles, so it will be interesting to see which ones the new automaker decides to take on.

Incidentally, the company’s name comes from British scientist Michael Faraday, which makes it the second automaker to reference a long-dead scientific visionary in its moniker. Faraday was a trailblazer in the fields of electrochemistry and electromagnetism. Through his work, electric transformers and generators were created, making it possible to truly harness electricity for powering machines, buildings, etc.

Faraday boasts a seasoned group of executives with experience in the automotive and tech sectors. In other words, this reveal is one that shouldn’t disappoint.
