DeltaWing Releases the GT Concept, a Production-Car Preview
You all likely remember the funky DeltaWing race car, but did you know that the same company is working on a production street car? Well, it is, and unsurprisingly, the street car draws a lot of inspiration from the endurance racer.
Earlier this week, at the Petit Le Mans, Delta wing unveiled a concept version of this street-legal car dubbed the Panoz DeltaWing GT concept. In terms of styling, the GT concept looks very familiar, as it has the same shapely body as the race car. This includes the narrow front track, and bulging rear fenders. It also features a teardrop-shaped greenhouse that helps keep the aerodynamic drag down to 0.26 Cd.
DeltaWing did not get too deep into drivetrain details, so this area remain a bit of a mystery for now. What it did mention is that it can use nearly any type of powertrain, including electric, hydrogen, diesel, natural gas, or a high-efficiency gasoline unit. It also announced that preliminary targets call for the GT to produce 300 to 400 horsepower and weight 1,800 to 2,000 pounds. If this is true, then we are talking a power-to-weight ratio that could rival some supercars.
There are no details about the GT’s cabin, and the initial images show off a very concept-like interior with just a single racing seat and a steering wheel. I am certain that any production model would be far better laid out than this
Needless to say, DeltaWing now has my full attention, so we’ll have to see if this concept becomes a production rig or not. We’ll continue to monitor DeltaWing’s progress and bring you updates when they are available. Stay tune for more.
