Chevy Slams Ford Aluminum Again

Chevy really loves it’s “real people, not actors” commercials lately. While you can argue the effectiveness of these “candid” gatherings, Ford shouldn’t be exactly amused at the latest Silverado commercial.

To show how tough Chevy’s pickup is compared to the F-150, the automaker decides to dump landscaping blocks into both truck beds. In this highly scientific demonstration in front of “real people” and with no bedliners, both trucks were damaged. Apparently the Ford was worse off. The results were similar for a metal toolbox test.

What you’re supposed to understand is that building a truck with aluminum is a bad idea, while steel is superior. Chevy’s going to be doing some backpedaling in the near future when it starts using the same stuff to make the Silverado.

I reached out to Ford for a response and this is what I got back:

“When you’re the market leader for 39 years, competitors sometimes try to take shots at you with marketing stunts. The fact remains that F-150’s high-strength, military grade, aluminum alloy cargo box offers the best combination of strength, durability, corrosion resistance, capability, safety and fuel efficiency ever offered in a pickup. We have built nearly a million new F-150s, and our lead over the competition continues to grow.”

Pretty graceful, considering the situation. Ford easily could’ve pointed out the upcoming hypocrisy of Chevy, but instead chose the high road.
