At the 2017 SEMA auto show, Chevy revealed the High Desert Concept based on the Silverado. At the time, this model was purely to gauge customer interest. Today, the American automaker has announced that the concept has spawned a new package carrying the same name and many of the same features.

The High Desert package will only be available on the LT, LTZ, and High Country versions of the Silverado 1500. This new package will include a handful of tweaks that Chevy pulled straight from the SEMA concept, including its water-resistant, lockable cargo cover over the bed, an adjustable cargo divider, lockable storage units in the bed walls, and Avalanche-like buttresses angling from the cab to the bed walls. Also included are 20-inch wheels on the LT models with this package and 22-inch rolling stock on LTZ and High Country models with the High Desert package.

The High Desert package also marks the first use of GM’s Magnetic Ride Control suspension on the Silverado. This system uses sensors to read the road every millisecond and adjust the shocks, which are filled with a magneto-rheological fluid. This will greatly improve the ride and body control of this beefy pickup.

Chevy has yet to announce when the High Desert package will be available nor has it announced any pricing details. We’ll keep a close eye on these key details and pass on the update when the information is available.
