Chevy Gives us a Glimpse at the Camaro’s New Body
We are merely weeks away from the debut of the 2016 Chevy Camaro, and the teasing continues. This time around, Chevy is actually giving us something with a little more substance, as it is showing of the hood and rear section of the body.
From these images, particularly the rear shot, it is Easy to see that Chevy is going for an evolution of the existing style. The rear section is nearly identical to the 2015 Camaro, but its lines are tighter, more compact, and more angled than the current model.
One clear difference is the shape of the taillight housing, which now wraps around with an upward slope. Another clear difference is how the center of the trunk lid angles inward instead of being straight up and down. The final differences I can pick out from the rear shot is that the spoiler sits up and off the trunk lid a little more than in the previous model and the crease running parallel to the fender edge. Chevy claims that these will help the smaller Camaro look wider and lower than it actually is.
The hood, as you can see, is completely redesigned. Made of lightweight aluminum, Chevy almost sculpted the hood around the engine, making for some pretty dramatic lines.
Though these images don’t give up too much, they are enough to keep us all excited. What I am really holding out for is the information on what drives the new Camaro. We all know that it will continue with the 6.2-liter V-8 in the SS model, but its final output numbers remain unknown, and it is a near certainty that the 3.6-liter V-6 will be back as the base engine. What remains unknown is whether reports of a twin-turbo V-6 will end up being true, and how powerful the 2.0-liter turbocharged mill will be.
Chevy should answer all or most of these questions on May 16th.
