When Cadillac revealed the ELR, many applauded the brand’s foresight in bringing the Volt’s tech to the luxury segment. The applause turned to crickets once its $75,000 price tag dropped. From that point on, the ELR was set up for failure, despite GM hacking its price in 2016 in an attempt to salvage any of the momentum from its debut. Today, we learn that Caddy has given up, and will pull the plug—pun totally intentional—on the ELR.

This all came from Cadillac president, Johan de Nysschen, himself during a media drive for the upcoming CT6. Considering only 1,024 units found homes in 2015, it could disappear tomorrow for all we know.

There was no mention of a rough time frame for the ELR’s elimination, but we will keep an eye out for its official execution date and pass that info on once it’s available. There are also no immediate plans for a successor.

For now, the fuel-sipping coupe will wait out its time on automotive death row.
