6. Porsche 911
The venerable 911 has been in production continuously since 1965 and has generated a following that is rabidly loyal, the likes of which many automakers dream of recruiting for one of their models. The design of the 911 is quite unique: a 2+2 coupe with a rear air-cooled flat six engine, rear-wheel drive. Nobody could have known back then just how diverse the engine would be, with its displacement being pushed to 3.6-liters from the original 2.0-liters and taking to turbocharging amazingly well. The overall design of the 911 remains largely unchanged, except for the introduction of a water-cooled system instead of the air-cooled setup, acting as a testament to the 911’s design. The car has also earned high marks for incredible reliability. Just about anyone can drive a 911, which behaves tamely with the engine revs low, but the car suddenly comes alive as the RPMs climb, transforming it into a performance sledgehammer.
