BMW Will Make The 8 Series Once More

BMW isn’t content to stand by and watch Mercedes get all kinds of praise and sales from the S-Class Coupe. Auto Express spilled the beans on the Bavarians’ plan to relaunch its old luxury GT, the 8 Series, for a sophisticated cage match.

As a brief history lesson for the youth, the 8 Series ended production in 1999. Some people thought it looked great, but never rose to a level of performance and sophistication you would expect from a Bimmer. Others still worship the old car. BMW hasn’t really given any indications that it would revisit the 8 Series, until now.

In case you haven’t noticed, BMW is really into making coupe versions of its sedan lines. The evidence that the 8 Series will return includes trademark applications for quite a few model names, among them 830, 845 and, wait for it… M850. Auto Express cites an inside source that says BMW isn’t just sitting on the names for future use, but is preparing to launch these models in the fairly near future.

Now the big question is what the 8 Series will look like. BMW could either create a super sexy, sleek car that really wows everyone, or it could cram the thing with so many body creases, vents, bulges, etc. to make it ugly. Here’s to hoping for the first of the two options.
