BMW Splits the Gap Between the Base M4 and GTS with a New CS
At the 2017 Shanghai Auto Show, BMW has revealed the latest version of the M4 that’s sure to have buyers in a frenzy. Meet the new M4 CS, which bridges the gap between the base M4 and the wild M4 GTS.
The 2018 M4 CS starts out with a healthy power bump, as M GmbH pushed the 3.0-liter inline-six engine to a 454 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque – an increase of 29 ponies. This more potent six-cylinder will pair with the M-DCT seven-speed dual clutch transmission to deliver a 0-60 mph time of just 3.8 seconds – 0.1 seconds quicker than the base M4. BMW also lifts the electronic speed cap, putting at 174 mph.
The M4 CS’ chassis almost mimics that of the M4 with the Competition Package. It gains forged-aluminum suspension links and wheel carriers for reduced unsprung weight, the Adaptive M Suspension, the Active M Differential, a retuned electromechanical steering system, three driving modes (comfort, sport, and sport plus), and 20-inch light-alloy wheels.
Inside, the M4 CS will treat occupants to lightweight M sports seats trimmed in leather and Alcantara. This upholstery stretches to the door panels, which also include lightweight pull loops.
The exterior also gets a few updates, including twin-LED headlights, a carbon-fiber powerdome hood and roof, a model-specific front splitter, the GTS’ rear diffuser, a new exposed-carbon-fiber trunk spoiler, OLED taillights, and more.
The M4 CS will hit showrooms sometime in 2018, and prices will be available later. But it’ll fall somewhere in the massive gap between the $66,000 M4 and the $133,000 GTS. Basically, your guess at the price is about as good as anyone’s… Stay tuned for updates.
