BMW Reveals Its Big Boy X7
After years of speculation, BMW has finally unveiled its Concept X7 iPerformance. To call it awkward looking is a stark reality, because this big SUV is anything but gracious. Thankfully it’s just a concept and BMW has time to fix the design before they bring it to market, right?
Sure, at some angles this X7 doesn’t look too bad. But look at it from other perspectives, it resembles everything from an old Lincoln Navigator to a cheese grater. Too many vertical flourishes emphasize a boxiness that isn’t really there. The kidney grille especially didn’t translate well. Combine that with the oversized windshield, and everyone’s wondering what exactly BMW was trying to accomplish.
Hopefully, BMW never dares to create a “coupe” version of this thing, or the world’s population may suffer serious ocular damage.
BMW’s official press release is chock full of nonsensical language, mostly about this SUV… oops, SAV, shows off sporty dynamics that “excels in all driving situations.” I wonder how well it performs in Autocross?
With all the ugliness, I almost forgot to mention that the Concept X7 iPerformance is a plug-in hybrid. Most likely, the production X7 will have a plug-in version, as well as one that’s all gas/diesel.
